In partnership with the South Central Workforce Development Board (SCWDB), the Foundation for Connecting Communities (FCC) is hiring a part-time tutors. These positions are part of a 18-month long RSS (Refugee Support Services) Vocational Training grant through the Kentucky Office for Refugees (KOR). Participants will mainly learn from Training Program Instructors and English Language Training Instructors. The main role for these Regular Tutors is to serve as a support and encouragement for the learners, pursuing careers other than Healthcare.

Job expectations:
(a) Be available for a maximum of nine hours for $180 a week (i.e. $20/hour): Wednesdays from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, Thursdays from 2:00pm to 5:00pm, and Fridays from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Note: If you are not available at all these times, we still need you. Simply, let us know which time slots that fit your schedule.
(b) Be with the training participants during the above sessions as they take the English Language Training lab-style courses at SKYCTC.
(c) Complete check-ins with the FCC's Director of Operations to discuss the progress of training participants and ascertain any support needs they may have. Check-ins may be done by phone or in-person at FCC's office located at 2501 Crossings Blvd, Suite 229, Bowling Green KY 42104.
Job Qualifications:
(a) Have a tutoring or educational setting experience or college students, preferably those in education careers.
(b) Be bilingual (Swahili and English or Spanish and English) is an asset (not required).
(c) At least 18 years old.

About FCC and SMILE2:

FCC (Foundation for Connecting Communities) is a community-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization, which was created in 2016 with a mission to connect minority, immigrant, and low-income families to socioeconomic and educational resources to improve their economic self-reliance.

In 2018, FCC established SMILE2 (Supporting Minorities, Immigrants, and Low-income through Educational Empowerment) program to provide academic enrichment sessions fueling learning progress among English Language Learners from Warren Central and GEO High Schools. Coincidently, these students are immigrants with less than five years in the United States. The program provides EL learners with academic support, soft skills development, and extra-curricular activities leading to a strong & successful adult life. We are building a strong foundation among SMILE2 participants.

Currently, SMILE2 program is an academic enrichment program designed to support high school students from refugee households in Bowling Green, KY. We focus on Math, Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Interpersonal Skills. SMILE2’s enrichment strategies concentrate on these primary subject areas, provide nutritious snacks to help students focus on an extended learning day, offer student engagement opportunities, educate students about various community resources, and challenge students to consider post high-school academic and career pursuits. SMILE2 sessions strive to complement the learning experiences that students gain during the school day by reinforcing academic vocabulary and concepts in new, creative ways. In addition to the supplemental academic support, we help SMILE2 students define long-term career vision and outline a roadmap to reach it. We provide mentorship services for the students to stay focused on the roadmap. We connect SMILE2 students to various community resources related to their academic success. We seek community-based scholarships to incentivize & support college education for SMILE2 students. We connect out-of-school youth to vocational training centers to improve career & employability competences.

Main Duties:

SMILE2 Academic Specialist and the SMILE2 Program Coordinator design and plan academic sessions. The main role for the SMILE2 Program Coordinator is to implement the SMILE2 Strategic Plan in a way that is perfectly aligned with KOR—FCC/SMILE2 School Impact Grant as detailed in the RSI and ARSI Service Plan. The following is a list of specific duties:

a. Recruitment and retention of program participants; 40 in the 2024/2025 academic year. This includes verifying eligibility, tracking enrollment and regular participation/attendance of program participants.

b. Conduct home visits which will primarily aim at building connections with parents, promoting the value of education, and providing tips and home-based habits that promote conducive learning environment.

c. Connect SMILE2 students and their families to community resources, emphasizing those related to family educational opportunities and socioeconomic wellbeing.

d. Work closely with SMILE2 Academic Specialist to plan, organize, and conduct SMILE2 Academic sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00PM to 5:00PM. This includes learning from the Academic Specialist and running some sessions.

e. Work closely with SMILE2 Academic Specialist to plan, organize, and conduct the PD (Professional Development) sessions.

f. Work closely with Greenwood Park Church of Christ to coordinate participants transportation.

g.   Conduct the client outreach for base RSI and ARSI programs, including planning, organizing, and conducting two workshops for SMILE2 students and their families.

h.   Connect and assist SMILE2 students with access to post-High School opportunities (Trade/technical/vocation training, College, Military, and/or employment).

i.    Work closely with SMILE2 Academic Specialist to plan, organize, and conduct the Summer Academic Camp to take place in 2025.

j.    Be responsible for all logistics (supplies, meals and the like) necessary for program activities to take place and run smoothly.

k. Make monthly reports on SMILE2 activities as they relate to the KOR—FCC/SMILE2 School Impact Grant.

l. Accomplish other tasks assigned to her/him and/or initiated by her/him to enhance/strengthen and further the purpose of SMILE2 Program.

Duration:

This is a fulltime position for 15 months, starting from July 2024 until September 2025 with a possibility for renewal depending on availability of funds and performance.

Salary:

The salary for this position is in the range of $50,000 and $55,000 per year depending on education and/or experience.

Job Qualifications:
a. At least an associate degree, preferably in Education or closely related disciplines. Experience of at least two years with EL learners is an asset.

b. Experience in data management, statistics, and/or reporting is extremely important.
c. At least 18 years old.

(b) Complete a 30-min long biweekly check-ins with the FCC's Director of Operations to discuss the progress of training participants and ascertain any support needs they may have. Check-ins may be done by phone or in-person at FCC's office located at 2501 Crossings Blvd, Suite 229, Bowling Green KY 42104.
(c) Based on the on-going relationships with training participants, provide insights/ideas on how to improve the program.
Job Qualifications:
(a) At least a Bachelor's degree and/or experience in healthcare/medical industry.
(b) At least 18 years old.

b.  Conduct home visits which will primarily aim at building connections with parents, promoting the value of education, and providing tips and home-based habits that promote conducive learning environment.

c.  Work closely with the SMILE2 Program Coordinator to connect SMILE2 students and their families to community resources, emphasizing those related to family educational opportunities and socioeconomic wellbeing.

d. Accomplish other tasks assigned to her/him and initiated by her/him to enhance/strengthen and further the purpose of SMILE2 Program within Afghan community.

Duration:

This is a flexible part time (10 hours a week) contract for 15 months, starting from July 2024 until September 2025 with a possibility for renewal depending on availability of funds and performance.

Job expectations:

a. Be available for 10 hours a week for up to $25/hour a week for 15 months.

b. Complete a 30-min long monthly check-ins with SMILE2 Facilitators to discuss the progress of program activities and ascertain any support needs they may have. Check-ins may be done by phone or in-person at FCC's office located at 2501 Crossings Blvd, Suite 229, Bowling Green KY 42104 or at the Corner.

c. Based on the on-going implementation of program activities, provide insights/ideas on how to improve the program.

Job Qualifications:

a. Speak English and any language spoken among Afghan community.

b. Experience with community involvement is an asset.

c. At least 18 years old.
