FRESH and wide PROJECTs
We have six years of partnership with Western Kentucky University, Need More Acres Farm, Community Farmers Market, Bowling Green Farmers Market, and SoKY Farmers Market to increase awareness, accessibility, and consumption of fresh produce among immigrant community households.
As a partner in this project, FCC will be responsible for the following major activities:
1. Conduct a consumer-oriented community outreach program to promote KY Double Dollars, (b) Fresh Rx for Moms, (c) WIC, (d) Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition programs. This includes printing and distribution of marketing flyers.
2. Organize and facilitate “Visit Local Farm and Buy Fresh” trips to various local farms.
3. Work closely with Need More Acres Farm to provide training and technical assistance to local socially disadvantaged growers, including connecting them to market opportunities, the USDA programs and other farm-related resources.
4. Conduct family-based educational sessions to promote health/nutrition, economic, and environmental benefits of eating locally grown fresh produce among minority, immigrant, and low-income community members. We will also promote farmers’ markets and other direct producer-to- consumer market outlets.
